When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, stringent health protocols around the world came into force. One of the greatly hit as a result of these health and safety measures is the travel industry. With vaccination programs start rolling out, that simply means people (in some places) are allowed to travel but of course keeping health protocols in mind and that includes wearing a facemask, frequent handwashing, and observing social distancing.
With all these safety measures and travel restrictions enforced, traveling may be quite difficult. But don’t you know that there are still several travel options we can enjoy without compromising health and safety? Check this out!
1. Go on a bicycle tour.
Gather your family and close friends for a bicycle tour! It can be a single-day trip or a weekend tour, depending on your schedule and destination. Be sure to plan your route as completely as possible, taking note of rest stops, meal stops, and accommodations (if traveling overnight). Don’t forget to bring emergency medicine and supplies, as well.
2. Watch movie outdoors.
Drive-in movie theaters are getting popular again! You can catch the latest blockbusters while staying within your car – keeping in line with social distancing rules. Don’t forget to bring your own popcorn, drinks, and a cozy blanket for an exciting movie night!
3. Get close to nature.
Now would be a fantastic time to explore “nature destinations” in your area. These include natural parks, wildlife sanctuaries, botanical gardens, and “eco-tourism” farms. These are all outdoor options that pose lower risks to travelers. Some of these places may accept only a limited number of visitors per day, so don’t forget to call or inquire beforehand.
4. Book a private vacation home.
Consider booking a private vacation home through Airbnb or other similar platforms. The great thing about renting a vacation home is that it limits person-to-person interaction. Compared to hotels, private vacation rentals are safer and limited to families and close friends only.
5. Stay in COVID -19 compliant hotels.
If you prefer to stay in hotels, be sure to choose a COVID -19 compliant hotels. These days, hotels are expected to adopt new measures, such as enhanced cleaning of rooms and public areas (e.g. elevators, lobbies) and using “contactless” transactions (e.g. online payments, digital keys). Also, look for hotels that offer plenty of wide, open spaces like beaches, gardens, and outdoor dining facilities.
6. Go on a road trip.
Traveling by bus, train, and other public transport is quite risky these days since you will be exposed to crowds. The safer option would be to go on a road trip instead! Gather your family and close friends for an exciting trip outdoors. You could rent a recreational vehicle (RV), especially if you are planning to travel long distances.
7. Go camping.
Now would be an awesome time to go camping! Head to a camping site (preferably one that isn’t too crowded), pitch a tent, and simply enjoy communing with nature. Don’t forget to bring the essentials – food, medicine, emergency kit, etc. If you’re camping near a river or a lake, you could also bring your fishing gear!
Travel options may be quite limited for the time being. Though we may be able to travel, please always keep in mind to follow health and safety protocols.
