A Quick Escape To Copacabana Beach

Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro made me realize how we’re not only fortunate to have such wonders to indulge on, but it also made me realize how there’s more to life than the usual routine we’re stuck with. The first time I heard Copacabana was from Barry Manilow, then it got me thinking, what’s with this beach that someone actually made a song for it? And since curiosity got the best of me, I’ve let myself become spontaneous and explore one of the most popular beaches in the world.
And I’m in total awe.

The beach itself is just breathtaking. Aside from the comforting feel of the sand against my feet and literally the ocean blue color of the water, the beach speaks so much of excitement and activity. And I never felt the awkward feeling of walking along the shore with other beachgoers enjoying the sun. It feels like I was a local myself. I’ve totally enjoyed the noise coming from people playing on the beach, giggling, and talking. You think this would be totally bummed me out, but it didn’t, it felt weird that I consider this music to my ear.

Copacabana Beach

Just like any beach, Copacabana has a lot of restaurants and pubs. But the real highlight of my short visit there was when I’d tried sports beach because I have to admit, playing sports in public is something I would do once in a blue moon or not at all. The locals of the Copacabana have brought out the athlete side in me. I played beach volleyball with them. Although I know I was the sole reason we lose, the experience itself made it feel like I won because not only it’s my first time playing beach volleyball, I’ve played it with people I’ve known for the very first time from a foreign country. There’s just an unexplainable feeling or bond that I’ve made with the people there like I’ve known them for quite some time.

Of course, I wouldn’t let myself leave Copacabana without having souvenirs that will remind me of my visit. There’s just a lot of souvenir shops around.

If I were to go back to Copacabana, I wish it would be around New Year’s Eve. They said it’s one of the highlights of the beach for there are lots of people celebrating there and waiting for the awesome annual fireworks display to happen.
