Hi to all dads out there! Happy father’s day to us! It is a little lonely here but to receive such a sweet greeting from one of the twins on waking up feels truly amazing and that calls for a celebration! Celebration doesn’t simply mean a super fun gathering with family or a drinking spree with buddies. There are always ways to celebrate this exclusive day just for dads. So no matter how you would be doing it, just bring it on!
I don’t attend Holy Mass very often, not that I don’t feel like it, but for some reason, I prefer keeping to myself. And yesterday I did an early Father’s Day celebration by visiting the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help more popularly known as the Baclaran Church. I think I’ve visited Baclaran Church several years ago but honestly, yesterday’s visit feels like it was my first.
I went there on a Saturday to avoid the Sunday crowd. Of course, I missed being in a crowd but not this time yet. COVID 19 is still on the loose. I already got my vaccine shot but it is always best to AVOID THE CROWD.
I have visited the Manila Cathedral, Quiapo Church, Malate Church, and the San Agustin Church several times, but I find Baclaran Church the most restful and solemn place to pray. The church premises is located in a busy district, but the church itself is tucked away a hundred meters away from thoroughfares with crazy traffic.
The church complex features a garden with lots of trees, so, instead of the revving engines and honking of horns from vehicles, the dominating sound you’ll hear inside is the high- pitch chirpings of cicadas. Enjoying the serenity of the church’s atmosphere, I decided to remain sitting on the bench for a few more minutes and even stayed there a bit longer admiring the beautifully designed pillars, walls, ceilings, and arches.
Certainly, you will love Baclaran Church as much as I do. Have a great Father’s Day Sunday!
