Boudicca
The cruise ship MS Boudicca, originally named “Royal Viking Sky,” was constructed in 1973 and was the second-oldest vessel in the Fred Olsen fleet, alongside fleetmates Black Watch (sistership, built in 1972 and scrapped in 2022), Balmoral, and Braemar. The construction cost of the cruise ship was USD 25 million. The vessel underwent its most recent refurbishment in 2018 and was sold in 2020, with a drydock scheduled for November 2020.
On August 21, 2020, Fred Olsen confirmed the retirement or scrapping of its cruise ships Boudicca (built in 1973, 47 years old) and Black Watch (built in 1972, 48 years old). In late September 2020, it was announced that Boudicca and Black Watch were both purchased by the Turkish company “Miray International Shipping Agency and Trade Co” based in Istanbul, with the intention of serving as hotel ships under the brand “Miray Cruises.”
Boudicca (IMO number 7218395) sailed for 15 years under Fred Olsen (2005-2020) and was registered in Nassau and flagged in the Bahamas (MMSI 309964000). The vessel’s AIS last transmitted on March 14, 2021, at 18:17 UTC, showing the ship berthed in Tuzla. It was announced in late May that the 48-year-old Boudicca was beached for scrapping at the Aliaga Ship Recycling Facility in Izmir, Turkey.
