Today, I had a colorful and airy ride. I normally don’t ride a jeepney (and not even a taxi), in getting to a not-so-distant place – say a 3 to 4-kilometer distance. But today was an exception because I forgot to set the alarm clock before I went to bed last night. I had an appointment at the MARINA (Maritime Industry Authority) Central office and I need to be there on time. I don’t know what the consequence would be if I got there late but one thing I know for sure, I will lose the appointment. Then a jeepney came to the rescue!
Jeepneys or jeeps are the Philippines’ most popular public transport. You can find jeepneys everywhere around the country – in the cities, towns, and throughout remote barrios or neighborhoods. And of course, the jeepney is the cheapest way to get around. But one thing I truly love about a jeepney, especially during this pandemic time, is that it feels a lot safer riding on it. With open windows along the sides and an open door at the back, passengers got to enjoy a fresh flow of air throughout the ride.
Two lessons learned:
1. Never and never forget (again) to set the alarm clock.
2. If you forget, always check rule 1.
Jeepneys are the country’s most colorful transportation. The decorative paint art comes in endless designs and a variety of colors. These include cartoons, anime, caricatures, movie characters, religious icons, abstracts, and a long list of designs.
This is for today and have a fun Monday!
