Isla Fernando de Noronha – White Sand And Trees In The Middle of the Ocean

With a distance of 1611 nautical miles, the voyage from Recife, Brazil to Mindelo, Cape Verde won’t allow us to see land for 5 days. Since there was a very small island that looked like a tiny dot on the chart lying just a few miles off from our original track, Captain revised the path allowing us to view some white sand and trees in the middle of the ocean.

Keeping a safe distance of 1 mile off the shoreline, we get passed close to a tiny island called Fernando de Noronha. It has an airport with regular flights linking the island to mainland Brazil.

Fernando de NoronhaWe passed Isla Fernando de Noronha exactly at noon and it would have been our final glimpse of Brazil. But it’s not because we had to turn around and head back to Isla de Noronha later in the evening for medical disembarkation.
