After the 15-night cruise to the Baltic and Scandinavia, Balmoral left Newcastle yesterday for another voyage. This time, the Balmoral is set to explore the Scottish isles – Shetlands and Orkney Islands.
Passing by the island called Hoy late afternoon today. Scottish weather doesn’t seem to be this clear and sunny. But look! What a day we had today! The photo says it all.
We sailed close to the island to get the closest view of The Needle and The Old Man of Hoy. The Needle is a 70-meter high sea stack located on the southwest coast of the island of Hoy. The Old Man of Hoy is a 137-meter high sea stack on the north coast of the same island. The Old Man is popular with climbers. The scenic cruising was during my watch. So, together with the Captain, two lookouts, and two bridge visitors doing the scenic talk, we were enjoying the scenery.
As much as I could, I did my best to absorb into my mind everything that came into view during the scenic cruise. The view was stunning and is something my phone camera couldn’t justify.
Looking forward for another stunning weather when we get to Lerwick tomorrow.
