Split is Croatia’s second largest city after Zagreb, the country’s capital. With well-preserved ruins dating back to the Roman Empire, present day Split is a popular destination enjoying cruise ship visits whole year round. A blend of modern and ancient setting, exploring Split is as interesting as it’s rich and majestic past.
There’s a lot to explore in this beautiful city but if you don’t have much time to visit all these, here are my 3 best things to do in Split and you can do it in split-second.
Diocletian’s Palace
Now a UNISCO World Heritage Site, the palace dates back to 305 AD when it was built for Roman Emperor Diocletian. Located in the center of the Old Town, it is around Diocletian’s Palace that Split has progressed and developed over the centuries.
The Old Town
Surrounding Diocletian’s Palace are courtyards and maze of cobbled-stone streets and narrow passages. Here you’ll find many small shops, cafe and restaurants. Want to take home souvenirs or simply would want to indulge your taste buds to authentic Croatian food? You are in the right spot!
Riva Promenade
This is a beautifully landscaped boardwalk in the Old Town facing the Adriatic Sea. Riva Promenade is a popular place in Split for strolling. The place is lined-up with palm trees and benches with a nice view out to the sea.
